I’m Eliza Dee, a professional editor who specializes in working with self-published authors and small presses. I pride myself on preserving the author’s voice, style, and vision while ensuring clarity, consistency, elegance, and correctness. I have helped to bring over 600 titles to market, including bestsellers such as James Rosone and Miranda Watson’s Rise of the Republic and World War III series and Matthew Rief’s Logan Dodge adventures.
I specialize in fiction (including romance, military, action, adventure, science fiction, fantasy, horror, historical, mystery, thriller, and young adult). I work with novels of any length, novellas, and short stories, and I also work with general nonfiction. I offer developmental editing, line editing, copyediting and proofreading (as well as packages combining the above services). I also edit some general nonfiction (business, memoir, self-help, health, popular history, and more) and academic work (using APA, MLA or Chicago styles).
I am American, but I edit comfortably in all varieties of English, including US, UK, Australian, Canadian and New Zealand variants.
For international authors, I can simply edit in your variant of English, enforcing the appropriate usage, punctuation and spelling conventions. I also offer full Americanization services, or, without localizing, I can advise authors on usage or vocabulary choices and cultural differences that are likely to confuse US readers.
As for my background, I hold a B.A. in English Language and Literature from the University of Michigan, as well as an M.A. in English Literature. I also studied law (University of Michigan) and library and information science (Indiana University) before becoming a full-time editor.
